(knock, knock) Housekeeping!

Ok I have not been happy with the weather pixie but im giving it another shot. I changed the location to wright pat air force base b/c the airport I had as my last location had not issued a weather update since yesterday at about 8pm. Where as WPAFB has in the last couple of hours. SO hopefully that will make it more current. Oh and I have figured out that the time displayed on it is not the current time but when its report was given.

Cheers!

Quick post. No really its short!

Ok last night I got my part!!!!!!!!!! I cant believe how long it has taken to get this dumb thing but my Bro finally got it right! SO Im buzzing right now. I was actually so excited I was playing with it. Yeah I know no comments neccesary. SO tommorow I pick up the bike and can start taking it all apart. then I will probably take some pics of the bike naked (without fairings) then put the light kit on. Then All back together and then I will take some pics and post of the light kit on and the new fairing and the cracked old one. SO im really excited to get it all back together. ^_^

Game update:
WE beat Champions of Norath last night! Oh my gosh so you can import your character back into the game and play it over again which is cool. At the end Lisa was level 19 I was level 17. We looked at starting another game and the difficulty levels. Heres what it says

normal - for beginners
med - level 20-34
hard - level 35-50

We were like oh my gosh. We played through the whole thing and are not at level 20 yet. Lisa is close and I might make a new character and exploit the cheat that auto levels you to 20 b/c I hate my wizard. she is ugly and sucks.

Well I have a very yummy chocolate chip bagel from panera staring me down so I must go.

Cheers!

A quick update

Its really funny to me how Lisa and I both work in education related fields but our hectic times seem to be opposite of one another. SO what I'm saying is that right now she is feeling relief from a hard work load and my work load is quickly ramping up. Hence the absence of mindless musings on my site. ^_^ I think I'm just going to try to outline things in bullet type format so that I don't miss anything. Ok here goes

Work -- WOW this is going to be a terribly crazy summer and we have lots of very important and critical projects going on that I barely have the time for. I am really trying hard to get Luke onboard over here so that I can have some time freed up from the mundane password changes or all the chicken littles who call claiming the internet is down.

Side note -- the joke between me and our last intern was that since the whole concept of the internet was to be a method of communication able to survive nuclear war, theoretically if the internet was down we must be in the fall out of a post apocalyptic nightmare and we should all run around screaming!

SO anyway those types of calls can take anywhere from 2-20 min and really make it hard to stay focused on a complex task. SO I'm very hopeful that something comes out of my efforts.

Working out -- I am again trying to get off my lazy butt and get into the Y consistently. SO far so good. I really think If I can stick with this that I will be much happier for it. My current schedule is cardio on mon, wed, thur and weights on tues, thurs, then sat is kinda free day but should be cardio of some kind and Sunday is my rest day.

Life in general -- Life in general continues to be a constant struggle and remains to be very difficult. Lisa and I were talking the other day and we think this could be one of the hardest times in our lives. SO prayer is really appreciated. (Thanks guys!) Of course the upside is that things should get better and that is my hope.

Motorcycle -- ARGGGGGGGG another constant frustration in my life. I still have not received the part to fix my bike. I did however get a battery and put it in on Monday with plans of riding it home. But thanks to Sara it poured down rain. STOP STRAIGHTENING YOUR HAIR SARA! ^_^ Then last night Lisa and I were going to stop by the house after her Violin lesson to get the bike and drive it back. But oh wait guess who forgot his key...D'OH! I really hope my upper cowl comes in today and that it is finally the right one. This will be the third time I have gotten this part. Honda is a great company but their microfiche is full of typos on part #s

Gaming:
PS2 -- I picked up Champions of Norath (CoN) for the PS2 and Lisa and I have been playing that a lot. We really like the hack and / dungeon crawlers and that's what this is. I will probably make a post when we finish it so I wont say much now other than its fun. I still have not finished FFX. And now that I have FFX-2 and .hack I really want to finish it and see what happens and move on to X-2. But its a time thing.
Xbox -- Still working on metal arms. I am stuck in an area that is rather difficult and I don't know where I am supposed to go next. SO I guess I need to check a guide or faq.
GBA -- yeah I own one but have not had time for it. However Steven was awesome and loaned me Super Mario Bros. 3!!!! I never got to play this growing up. I played 1 and 2 and then all things Mario stopped for me when the kid who owned a Nintendo moved out of my neighborhood. SO I started that last night at the violin lesson and got through the first world. WOOT!!!

anyway I gotta get to work
Cheers

Digital snobbery

SO I am discovering more and more that I am a digital Snob and I'm wondering how many other people out there are the same way. If I'm interested in a product from a particular company and they don't have a web presence then I pretty much forget about them and look elsewhere. I'm an information junkie. I want to know everything there is to know about a product before I make my purchase and if a company doesn't see how valuable it is to put the information on the net then I just don't want to have anything to do with them. SO like I said I'm a snob. But I don't feel that I am alone and I feel that the we are on the verge of a paradym shift in consumerism (freshman Sociology reveals its ugly head.) Lets take a journey through time to see what I am talking about. I will try to divide the era's of consumerism into definable blocks that are totally made up by me but how in my understanding best represent the ebb and flow of what it has meant or what it means to be a "Consumer."

The Ma & Pop era.
Ahh the good ole days when you went down to the general store, also the local fillin station (that was for you sara) to pick up the odds and ends that you needed for daily life. Stores were highly specialized and the owner was extremely knowledgeable about everything in his/her store. I'm really thinking of the traditional hardware store here. Although I never really have been to a store like this I have been told that it was really a wonderful time. You could go into a store and say hey Eustis I need a 3/4" x 3" machine screw. Not only would good ole eustis know exactly where that screw was in his store while he was getting it he would ask you what new project you had going on. While telling him he would then impart some piece of knowledge in a gentle and kind way to essentially tell you that you really needed a 5/8" wood screw that was 5" long. You would thank him and take his advice, after all he was rarely ever wrong. When going to pay for it he would say don't worry about it its just one screw. IMO the shopping experience at this time must have felt very rewarding. You went to see a friend and to get good advice. The actual product purchased was almost secondary. Shopping was easy lines were non-existent and even if you had to wait in line you probably knew some of the people you were waiting with so that was a good time too.

The Wal-mart / Lowes era
Ok the commercially pronounced "Golden Era of shopping" where everything in the world is cheaper than anywhere else and everything you could possibly want is under one roof. To compare and contrast with the Ma & Pop era that same trip for the screw goes more like this. You go to wal-mart and go to the hardware department. You spend 5 min trying to find the hardware department. Then you spend another 10 min looking for the screw. Frustrated you spend another 5 min trying to find an employee. Once found you ask where the screw is located or if they have it. Another 5 min goes by as you both now look aimlessly at the aisle until you finally find the screw! WOOT! You go to check out, wait for another 5 min at one of the two checkouts that are open. Finally you put the 20 cent screw on your debit card. Once home you discover that you have purchased the wrong screw and a return trip is in order. If you choose to return the screw you can add another 5-10 min to the visit time. The shopping experience can be extremely frustrating and time consuming but the money saved can be very substantial so that makes up for the lack of knowledgeable sales staff.

and Finally...

The E-Commerce Era.
I do not pretend to think that the wal-mart era is over or that it ever will be over but I do think that this new era is running parallel and gaining momentum. Now Instead of having to go out to Wal-mart to find the screw you can check on line and see if they have it. You can look for what the best price is and compare it with a plethora of other merchants who beg to sell you the same screw only cheaper. You can search news groups and forums for people undergoing similar projects and find out that you in fact need a different part or that and again find out which one is best. I see this as the era of the informed consumer. We are no longer held hostage by the knowledge of others, we can now go out to a manufacturer and see every spec on a piece of equipment or the sizing info on an article of clothing and know exactly what we want to buy before we ever go shopping. A little side story to help prove my point. Last January Lisa and I got a new LCD rear projection TV. Since this was a major purchase I spent countless hours researching the best bang for my buck. I read reviews, looked at forums, posted questions, and compared prices. When it was all said and done I knew exactly what TV I wanted without having to ask the min wage employee any questions. In fact I knew more about it then he probably did when I bought it. But then he tried to sell me their extended warranty. I said I was not interested. He then went on to try and scare me by telling me that if the bulb went out that it would be very expensive and I would have to get it from them anyway. I replied well your service plan is 500 and a bulb is 200. I think ill take my chances. He then said well I don't think its that cheap and you have to get it through us. I replied again. My price was current from Panasonic as of yesterday and its listed as an accessory part purchasable from their site with installation instructions so I think ill take my chances. He was seriously stunned and had no come back. That is the power of the information age and why I am a digital snob. So to close I find this era very satisfying. I no longer feel jilted by inept employees who's best come back is "well this isn't really my department." I feel empowered and in control to use the means available to make educated decisions and then find the best price.

SO I guess to get back to the point that's why I'm a snob. If you are trying to sell something and you cant even fork out the money for a crappy site and a domain name than to me that says you don't feel you will be in business very long or you feel spending money on technology is a waste. Either way that loses something with me and I no longer care to buy your product. SO there you have it.

I'm a snob.

Hocking Hills Pics!!!!

Ok I know I promised these like a month ago or so but it has taken a long time to get them off the camera and blah blah blah. Anyway we had a really great time and I highly recommend visiting the hocking hills area if you never have. Its really pretty and a lot of fun. SO on to the pics.

Photos by Lisa N. Knodel (except when she's in the pic. Then it was probably me.)

Lisa at Cedar Falls

Cedar Falls -- Interesting side note. These falls were named after the trees that the first settlers thought were all around the falls. Little did they know but they were WRONG! There are no cedar trees anywhere in the area. They were just that dumb. C'mon wouldn't you check with someone first before you name a place after a tree???

Me and Lis at Cedar Falls

Cedar Falls -- side note -- of all the three falls that we visited Cedar Falls is the highest volume-of-water fall in the area.

Cedar Falls

Cedar Falls

Me (notice how aerodynamic my head is!) No Seriously there was like a storm brewing and like 200 MPH winds. If I had hair it would have been blowing everywhere so WOOT for baldness!

Ash Cave -- Named after the large amount of ashes early settlers found in the cave, which incidentally isn't really a cave. Its good these things were discovered long ago and not today. I don't imagine that trash cave or medical supply waste cave would bring in the tourists.

Ash Cave Falls

Ash Cave -- Side note -- Despite not really being a cave the falls at Ash Cave are the highest in the area at roughly 200' which is pretty freaking awesome. And you can walk right up to it at the base. If I had hair and a bottle of Herbal Essence Shampoo I would have so Gotten my commercial on!

Ash Cave

Old Mans Cave Lower Falls -- This was one of the cooler areas. The lower Falls are really spectacular and if you are adventurous you can go behind them.

Me and My Sweetie -- Ok This has got to be my favorite pic of the bunch. Lisa and me at the upper falls.

Old Mans Cave Upper Falls

Old Mans Cave upper falls -- This is what feeds into the upper falls. Very Cool!

Old Mans Cave Upper Falls on the rocks! -- Ok Lisa wanted a good pic through the bridge out so we both got our feet a little wet in the name of photography and walked out onto the creek bed you see in the pic above. I was mostly there to make sure Lisa didn't go Niagara on those falls!

Old Mans Cave Foggy -- I like this pic a lot. It was super foggy that day and I just love the way the haze of the fog kinda flows around the pic.

Old Mans Cave -- here's another cool Fog effect pic.

Well that's it.

Cheers!

Random funny stuffs

Yeah thats right!

Ok so if you look at the links on the left you will see one for "jinx" well they sell all kinds of cool stuff for geeks, gamers, and hackers. Now I think their are a lot of really stupid t-shirts floating around the world but this one really makes me smile. SO assert your power over the virtual world and announce your willingness to be an elitest snob and buy this t-shirt!

My other funny story is possible not as good as hannahs dead frog attacking her car story but I can assure you this story is entirely true and not at all exagerated...

Anyway so yeah I think Dayton is a crazy place b/c in the space of one day I have seen two things that well are just bizare.

Crazy Thing # 1: Im stopped at a stop light and there is a car coming from the opposite direction. As the car approaches the red light the driver side door pops open and the driver sticks his leg out and begins dragging it on the ground to help stop the car! I felt like I was in the flintsones or something

Crazy Thing #2: This one is specifically for Hannah. There is a store in Dayton called "Gold 4 Ya Teeth." Just think about it.

Cheers!

Its like the world is against me

Above you will see what I was greeted with as I popped open firefox this morning. Ahh yes google my fav search engine and the only real one left that works well in my opinion. But today google let me down by succumbing to the mindless hype that is Frank Lloyd Wright. I really hate this person. I guess I don't hate the man himself I just had the hype that is the man. I theorize that the only reason anyone likes the crap he designed is because of his name. Lets think about it. Who wants to buy a house desinged by frank wright? or Lloyd wright? Nobody but SHAZAM Frank Lloyd Wright WOW thats just brilliant. Oh please let me be a student of his style I too want to design structures that look like bad modern art.

To that I say BAH!

To Frank Wright I say BAH!

and to the whole society of lovers of the man that was I say BAH!

I thought humans could kill anything?

Isn't that right. Are we not the species to be feared by all other species? Are we not the ones who have hunted other species into extinction, who have tried to (and continue to) devise new more creative ways to annihilate our own species? Are we not the species who are more appropriately compared to a virus having the ability to take anything good in the world and either destroy it or turn it to crap? If so then let me pose a question that has seriously been on my mind for quite some time.

Why is hair so special?

Why is it that we can harness the power of atoms and make them do our bidding but we cant make hair grow? Now I realize making something grow is not always a very easy process but in Contrast why cant we kill the little buggers?

WE CAN KILL JUST ABOUT ANYTHING! THATS WHAT WE DO!

I feel unique to many people in that I am faced with both sides of this issue.

1.) I wish their were a way to make the hair on my head grow fuller and thicker and in general just to grow more.

2.) I wish for the hair on the rest of my body to sod off.

SO my life is like a comedy of errors with my leg hair mocking me and laughing at my scalp. (I used to be a competitive cyclist and after shaving my legs for like 8 years I cant go back)

SO again why is it that we have not yet solved one of these problems that plagues gajillions of people in the world? The solutions just are not there.

Ok For hair growth what do we have

Rogaine -- what a ripoff (no I have not tried it) Read the box closely any benefits you receive from using it will immediately disappear if you stop using it. And at 50 bucks a month, assuming I make it to at least 85 I could spend $34,800 over my lifetime to have a little bit more hair than I do right now.

next their is Propecia a little pill that promises miracles and delivers broken dreams. Again similar cost to rogaine.

Hair transplants. Yeah right like those come out looking good. Still they are $5-10,000 for one. And you may have to have it done again if it doesn't take.

Now for the inverse. What out there to get rid of hair

Shaving totally annoying and you almost always miss spots. Plus it only really feels good for like a day before the pricklies come back.

Nair type products Ok this crap flat out just does not do much. Also I find that if the cream does not irritate your skin the smell will certainly make you sick and that's pretty bad.

Wax a better solution that lasts longer but is really expensive and you still have to get it done like every month or so. Plus you have to go somewhere so its not that convenient.

electrolysis I have read this may be the best option but it is still quite expensive like $2-300 a session and it can take up to like 5 sessions before the hair stops coming back. And even then you have to follow up like once a year and be retreated. Again that's the rest of your life. How is that affordable and within reach of the everyday person? Its not!

SO what's my point? Call your congressman or write your senator and tell them that you want government money and research grants given to people who are willing to come up with a better way to kill / grow hair. Every year we waste billions of dollars on the dumbest grants (did you ever hear that a guy got govt money to study how fast ketchup moves? Its true) SO surely their is some money for the worthwhile cause of hair growth and removal.
