One ring, I mean remote, to rule them all!

Ok so like its been a long time pet peeve of mine to have like a thousand remote controls floating all over the place in the living room.  I have tried some so-called "universal" remotes in the past and have always been dissapointed.  It seems like they are really only capable of turning on "most" devices changing the channel and volume and thats about it.  There is little to no ability to use or add the special functions on your original remote and that has always caused me to abandon whatever I had purchased to help me out.  Well I finally decided to invest a little in a REAL UNIVERSAL remote.  I got a Logitech Harmony 550 and although I have not used it yet the setup was a breeze.  Its all run via software on your pc or mac and what I really like about it is that you set up activities on the remote.  What that means is that with the press of one button on the remote it will launch the activity that I want to do.  SO for example if I press the "watch TV" hotkey the remote will:

turn on the tv and set it to channel 3
turn on my DTV box

and then use the channel up and down buttons for the DTV box and the volume up and down for the TV.

or say I push the xbo x360 softkey.  that will:

turn on the tv and set it to component 1
turn on the surround sound system and set it to av 1
turn on the xbox 360

Its soooo freaking cool and totally customizable.

Im soo geeked to be giving this a try and like I said if the set up is any indicator of how it will work this is going to rawk the sox off paris hilton

cheers

Now I think I want one. It would make things easier for Momoko and her mom - that is for certain.

i just got the harmony one, and i agree, very nice to have something that actually acts like a "universal" remote.

That is so freakin cool and it also controls the NEW xbo x360. Wow! I didn't know those were out yet and all I've seen was the xbox 360.

=) I can't wait to get one myself.
